Facing a Long-Term Disability with Support from LCOC
At this time last year, Jenna was busy juggling the joys of raising her young daughter with a busy job at the restaurant where she had worked for a decade. But an unexpected medical event changed everything. Suddenly facing a serious long-term disability, Jenna was forced to leave her job and adapt to a new reality – one filled with uncertainty, physical limitations, and financial strain.
To make matters worse, Jenna was dismayed to learn that her vehicle needed critical repairs to keep it safely on the road. Living on the Outer Cape where reliable transportation is essential, Jenna knew that school drop-offs, medical appointments, and daily errands all depended on her ability to keep the car operational and, most importantly, safe. She needed a solution quickly but felt paralyzed by her financial situation.
Jenna simply had no way to cover the cost of repairs on her own. Thankfully, a neighbor who was familiar with the work of the Lower Cape Outreach Council brought Jenna into their offices where she met with a financial assistance advocate. A solution quickly began to come together.
The Orleans-based nonprofit was quickly able to provide the funds needed to repair Jenna’s vehicle and get her back on the road. What may seem like a simple repair made a profound difference – restoring her ability to safely get her daughter to school, sports, and music classes each day and to attend her own medical appointments without added stress.
“LCOC’s support meant everything to us,” Jenna shared. “It helped me keep my daughter’s routine stable during a really difficult time; I would have been lost without their help.”
Jenna continues to adjust to her new circumstances with resilience and determination. Her reliable transportation has been restored, and she can focus on her health and her daughter’s well-being.
