Summer of Hope: Shannon’s Story

Stressful Car Repair Emergency Remedied with Support from LCOC

When a routine tune-up turned into a full brake replacement, Shannon panicked as the cost was well beyond what she could afford. To make matters worse, Shannon relies on her car for her income as both an uber driver and delivery driver for several companies. Shannon was worried that the repair would result in lost income that would put her into an even deeper hole. As Shannon tearfully discussed the price of the repair with the garage owner, she got some much-needed good news. This particular business frequently works with the Lower Cape Outreach Council and quickly made a call to request assistance for Shannon. “I was so anxious, but the owner was great. He called Lower Cape Outreach and put me on the phone with them,” Shannon explained. “I was so relieved when they said that they could help.” The shop immediately got to work on her car while Shannon spoke with the LCOC staff who not only assured her that they could help with the cost of the repair, but also could make several referrals for other services.

“It was an incredibly stressful day, but in the end, I was so grateful and appreciative of the support that I received.” Shannon said. “The staff was great and gave me so many new resources to utilize, especially their food pantry, that I now use every couple of weeks.” LCOC works with clients like Shannon on a daily basis in the fulfillment of their mission to provide emergency assistance to the residents of the Lower and Outer Cape.

In 2024, LCOC provided $165,485 in financial assistance to support transportation and repair needs. Donor contributions allow us to help our neighbors when facing unexpected expenses.
