As a new mother, Nina was determined to do everything that she could to provide the best life for her young family. A 26-year-old Lower Cape resident, Nina chose to pursue a new career as a medical coder to earn a higher wage while working mostly from home. At the end of the course, however, she learned that her final licensing exam would cost more than $700. The news was a shock; but as a frequent client of the Lower Cape Outreach Council’s food pantry, Nina knew of the agency’s financial assistance program and reached out for help. The LCOC advocate gladly assisted with the fee and Nina aced the exam, securing her license and a new career.
One year later, Nina stopped by the Lower Cape Outreach Council office to update her information and shop at Katy’s Korner. She was met at the door by the very advocate who helped her pay the exam fees. Nina told the advocate how significantly the assistance impacted her life and that she has received several promotions and is managing other employees. “The help I received from Lower Cape Outreach allowed me to begin helping myself,” Nina said. “I haven’t looked back and with a little luck I’ll soon be a homeowner!”
