Back on Track after a Work Injury
When an injury at work caused Eric to miss several weeks of pay, he was left in a precarious financial situation. As a single father, he was already struggling to manage all of the household expenses while also making regular payments on his daughter’s college tuition. By the time he was able to return to work, Eric was already a full month behind on his expenses and his landlord was threatening to begin the eviction process. The thought of him and his daughter being homeless motivated Eric to seek help. He was pointed to the Lower Cape Outreach Council by his local St. Vincent DePaul chapter.
“The bills were piling up so fast, I really didn’t know where to turn.” Eric said. With his landlord pushing forward with the eviction process, Eric knew that time was running out and he needed to move quickly. After explaining the situation to the advocate at LCOC, they quickly got to work resolving the issue. Through quick communication and rapid coordination with other financial assistance agencies, they were able to secure the full amount of arrears to prevent the eviction and keep Eric and his daughter safely housed.
“I cannot even think what we would have done if Lower Cape Outreach hadn’t acted so quickly. They got us back on track and I will be forever grateful.” Eric expressed, while noting how difficult it is for a single-income family to live and work on the Lower Cape. Eric’s injuries have healed, his daughter just returned home from her second year of college, and they are current on all of their bills. Eric hopes that his story will encourage others to reach out if they need help. “It was the best call I ever made!”
In 2024, LCOC was able to provide $842,589 in Financial Assistance to nearly 1,000 households on the Lower and Outer Cape.
Donor support made this all possible while strengthening the lives of so many.
