Areas of Service

Volunteers receive orientation, training, and staff support. There are quarterly membership meetings and volunteer celebrations. The many outreach and fundraising activities sponsored by LCOC are additional ways to get involved, make new friends, and support the overall agency.

Regular and flexible schedules are available along with occasional fill-in dates.

Front-Office Volunteer

Front office receptionists work at the LCOC Main Office, located at 19 Brewster Cross Road in Orleans, under the supervision of the Director of Operations.

Role includes greeting and assisting walk-ins, answering the phone, updating client information on the computer, input client visits to the food pantries and Katy’s Korner, and accepting donations (money, food, clothing).

In general, front-office volunteers sign up for either a morning (9:30a-12:30p) or afternoon (12:30p-3:30p) session once weekly or twice monthly. Substitutes are also needed to cover open shifts caused by sick time, travel plans, etc. The Front Office Volunteer Manager provides initial training.

Food Pantries

LCOC operates nine food pantries in each of the towns we serve – Brewster, Chatham, Harwich, Orleans (2), Eastham, Truro, Wellfleet, and Provincetown. Volunteers work under the direction of volunteer pantry managers and supervision of the Director of Operations. Click here for full pantry schedule as each pantry operates at different hours. Volunteers sign up for any of the dates they can work each month.

Pantries distribute free food on a weekly basis. Pantry volunteers also stock perishable and non-perishable food and occasionally deliver to local residents who are homebound or lack transportation.

Light lifting is required.

Katy’s Korner

Soon to be relocated to the first floor of the Main Orleans office, Katy’s Korner provides LCOC clients free in-season clothing as well as linens, towels, and other necessary home goods. Katy’s Korner volunteers work under the direction of volunteer managers and the supervision of the Director of Operations.

Role includes accepting and sorting donated items for clients to peruse; and administering client check-ins. Katy’s Korner is open from Monday through Friday, 9:30 to 12:00. Training is typically on-the-job, working alongside experienced volunteers. Light lifting is often required.
