Food ProgramsLower Cape Outreach runs 8 food pantries on the lower Cape plus a centralized food storage warehouse in Orleans. In 2009, 2066 men, women and children turned to our volunteer-staffed pantries for a total of roughly $475,000 worth of food. Further, we distribute food monthly to local Councils on Aging and other direct service organizations to provide to their clients. Additionally, Lower Cape Outreach Council provides food baskets to our clients during the holiday season and again in the spring. Last year, over 1,000 households received these baskets to help tide them over. Though we are blessed with generous donations of food throughout the year by local individuals, businesses and organizations, in 2009 the Council spent an additional $88,986.71 to stock our pantries with fresh foods and nutritious alternatives to canned and packaged products. LCOC volunteers get ready for a monthly food distribution.
