SUMMER of HOPE 2008 Kicks Off in a Climate of Economic Uncertainty
Starting June 10th, our team of Summer of Hope volunteers will be distributing canisters to businesses from Harwich to Provincetown. Summer of Hope, which has become a staple of our fundraising year, is kicking off for its fifth year. Last year, the campaign brought in a record amount of revenues, all of which went towards providing clothing, food and emergency economic assistance to hundreds of families and individuals on the lower Cape. This year, with need going through the roof, the fear is that contributions will be down. We have set as a goal maintaining last year's levels, if possible. This year's poster for Summer of Hope quotes the following facts and figures. In 2007 ... *We gave out $227,043 of food from our eight food pantries *We provided over $97,000 of clothing and bedding to 1,235 people *We came up with nearly $300,000 in direct cash assistance for rent & mortgage payments, heat & utilities, medical and prescription costs, education and child care *We helped Santa make the season bright with new presents for 502 lower Cape boys and girls *We provided full holiday food baskets to over 1,000 local families Please give generously when you see the Summer of Hope canister with the word HOPE You can mail your contribution to Lower Cape Outreach Council, P.O. Box 665, Orleans, MA 02653 or you can contribute with your MasterCard or VISA right now by clicking on the How to Contribute page of this website.
