For the past 36 years, Lower Cape Outreach Council has been dedicated to providing short term emergency food, clothing and financial assistance to residents of the 8 towns that constitute Lower Cape Cod: Brewster, Chatham, Eastham, Harwich, Orleans, Provincetown, Truro and Wellfleet.
Each year, especially in the winter months, nearly 2,000 local households turn to us when food is in short supply, when rent or mortgage payments are behind, when heat is running low, when utility shut offs are threatened or when any of a myriad of unbudgeted expenses can throw the economics of a household into chaos.
Today we go beyond emergency, short term assistance to offer our clients a level of support that can make meaningful changes in their lives and help them become more self-sufficient members of the Cape Cod community.
This support includes an ongoing mentoring program where clients identify the issues that stand between them and their objectives
- access to a vast network of other nonprofits and the specific resources they offer;
- a jobs program, HopeWorks, which puts the full capacity of Career Opportunities at our clients’ fingertips right here on the lower Cape;
- an educational assistance program that provides financial help to clients pursuing degrees, certifications or any other job training opportunities ;
- a full roster of wrap around services (food, clothing, financial assistance) to sustain client households and facilitate the pursuit of their objectives.
